Miandad takes a dig at Ganguly for urging India to boycott World Cup match vs Pakistan

first_imgFormer Pakistan captain Javed Miandad took a dig at Sourav Ganguly after the ex-India skipper urged the Indian cricket team to boycott the match against Pakistan in the ICC World Cup.”I think Sourav wants to run for elections in the coming days or wants to become the chief minister as it is just a publicity stunt to gain attention of his country mates,” Miandad said.”There is absolutely no chance of the ICC listening to the BCCI as its constitution allows members the right to participate in its events,” the legendary batsman was quoted as saying by the Dawn on Friday.Ganguly on his part had ruled out any possibility of India playing Pakistan in bilateral cricket after the Pulwama terror attack. The former India captain also said that he completely understands the reaction of Indians, saying he too feels the same.”Whatever happened in Pulwama last week was really sad…it is the worst possible thing that could ever happen. And, whatever reactions came from the people of India…was right. There is no chance of a bilateral series with Pakistan after this incident,” Sourav Ganguly was quoted as saying by a media channel.”I can also understand the sentiments of people asking India not to play Pakistan in the World Cup and I feel the government should take strong action on this issue. The after effect of this should be strong from India,” Ganguly added.Sourav Ganguly also said that the fact is BCCI under the control of the Supreme Court almost renders itself powerless at the moment and are not in a position to take any strong action.advertisement”I don’t think anything is left in BCCI after the Supreme Court situation. There are no office bearers left to take a decision but I feel that BCCI should take a strong decision on the issue and send a strong no nonsense message.””This is a 10-team World Cup and every team plays every team and I feel if India doesn’t play a match in the World Cup, it won’t be an issue,” Ganguly added. The BCCI meanwhile, is likely to consult Team India top brass and then decide on whether to play against Pakistan or not in the ICC World Cup in May-June.The Indian cricket board officials and the Committee of Administrators decided to wait and have a word with captain Virat Kohli, coach Ravi Shastri and MS Dhoni before coming out with a concrete solution, according to sources.BCCI CEO Rahul Johri is also expected to raise this issue in the International Cricket Council meeting on February 26.Also Read | India will play against Pakistan in the World Cup if BCCI says so: Yuzvendra ChahalAlso Read | BCCI to meet on ‘no-Pakistan at World Cup’ stance, ICC watches onAlso Read | Should India play Pakistan at World Cup?
