first_imgTwo lots of historical significance in Donegal are listed for Whyte’s ‘Eclectic Collector’ auction this February. Among the diverse array of collectibles for auction on February 3rd 2018 are a Pádraig Pearse portrait sculpture by Redmond Herrity and a 1959 County Donegal Railway poster.Image: www.whytes.ieThe Pádraig Pearse portrait is one of three sculptures carved by artist Redmond Herrity, whose large scale public works include the Celtic Cross in the Cathedral Square car park, Letterkenny and the Miami Showband Memorial at Parnell Square Dublin. The low-relief portrait of Irish nationalist and 1916 signatory Padraig Pearse on a limestone slab is estimated to fetch between €200 – €300 at auction.Image: www.whytes.iePeople with an interest in Donegal’s railway past may wish to get their hands on Lot 169, a 1959 notice of the Withdrawal of Railway Services.The poster alerts people to the cessation of travel between Strabane, Killybegs, Letterkenny, Donegal and Ballyshannon after 31st December 1959.The poster has an estimated auction value of €200 – €300. Other items of note in Whyte’s first auction of 2018 is a Bronze Age dagger dating to the 2nd Millennium BC, Kathleen Clarke’s 1916 Rising medal, Michael Collins and Eamonn de Valera’s autograph signatures on a menu and first editions of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings.
